Why service in spring
In July and August technicians are fully booked and a breakdown means days without cooling. A service in March to May catches problems early, while dirty filters and coils are cleaned before the heavy season, when they would raise power use the most.
What a proper service includes
- Deep cleaning of filters, coil and fan, with antibacterial treatment
- Flushing the condensate drain to stop drips and smells
- Cleaning the outdoor unit and straightening the fins
- Checking refrigerant pressure, temperatures and electrical connections
- Advice if a unit is too small or near the end of its life
Warning signs
- Weak airflow or warm air
- Water dripping from the indoor unit
- Bad smell when the unit starts
- Ice on pipes or the outdoor unit
- Unusual noise or vibration
Rentals and holiday homes
Units in rentals and holiday homes are often used heavily by people who never clean the filters. A service before each season, or a maintenance plan, avoids complaints and emergency call-outs.
