Three different problems
Damp in Cyprus homes usually has one of three causes, and each needs a different fix.
- Condensation: warm, moist indoor air meets cold walls in winter. Common in bedrooms, bathrooms and corners of exterior walls.
- Leaks: water from the roof, a terrace, a shower or a hidden pipe. Usually a defined stain that grows after rain or use.
- Rising damp: ground moisture climbing ground-floor walls, leaving salt marks and crumbling plaster near the floor.
How we find the cause
We take moisture readings, look at where and when the damp appears, check the roof and terraces above and test pipes where needed. Finding the source first avoids paying for the wrong repair.
Lasting fixes
- Condensation: better ventilation, extractor fans, insulation of cold walls, anti-mould paints
- Leaks: repair the roof, terrace, shower or pipe, then dry and restore the wall
- Rising damp: damp-proof treatment and salt-resistant plasters
- Mould removal with proper treatment before repainting
What you can do today
- Open windows for a few minutes every day, even in winter
- Use the bathroom fan and keep the door closed while showering
- Do not dry laundry indoors without ventilation
- Leave a small gap between furniture and exterior walls
